VITA/TCE
The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free tax help to people who generally make $67,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.

AARP Foundation
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax help for all taxpayers, particularly those who are 50 years of age and older, or who have low to moderate income, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors. Be prepared for your appointment. The IRS provides a list of what to bring or have on hand to ensure you have all required documents and information VITA and TCE volunteers need to help you.
Online Tax Help
IRS Free File
IRS Free File allows you to prepare and file your federal individual income tax return for free using online tax preparation and filing software or Free File Fillable Forms.
MyFreeTaxes
MyFreeTaxes allows individuals or households earning $67,000 or less to file both federal and state returns online for free. This service is provided by the United Way.

Tax Forms
Paper tax forms will be available in the Business and Economics Department at Central Library. Only certain tax forms and instruction books will be made available. Patrons may also utilize the library's free printing service to print other tax forms. It is advisable to call the Business and Economics Department at 213-228-7100 for questions about any of the tax forms.

Tax Dispute Help
Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITC) assist individuals with limited income who have a tax dispute with the IRS, and provide education and outreach to individuals who speak English as a second language. Services are provided for free or for a small fee. Find a local clinic near you.

General tax preparation services may also be available. It is strongly advised to call ahead to learn more and to make an appointment.
