Mayor Garcetti launched a new job resource program at City libraries. The grand opening of the new center was attended by about a hundred library patrons and staff, job seekers, reporters and activists.
During the opening ceremony, the Mayor was joined by City Librarian John Szabo, Economic & Workforce Development Department (EWDD) General Manager Jan Perry, and the City of Los Angeles Workforce Investment Board (WIB) Chair Charles Woo.
“Now, our patrons will be able to connect to more employment opportunities with the assistance of trained staff and additional resources in our WorkSource Center Portal,” said City Librarian John Szabo. “In this high profile location, we will reach people already looking for work and increase their probability of success,” said Jan Perry, EWDD’s General Manager.
The new, one-stop Career Center is located in the Business & Economics Department of Central Library and is open to the public every day except Sunday. It offers the support of the library’s books, media, online resources, and reference librarian assistance. The Center also offers free use of computer equipment and a printer/scanner/fax machine for job seeking activities only. Appointments are encourage to ensure the best service, but are not required. Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment (PACE) operates the City’s new WorkSource Center in the Central Library and Managed Career Solutions will provide technical assistance and training for Adult Services librarians at LAPL branches throughout the City.
