Latina storyteller Olga Loya mixes Spanish and English to share traditional tales from Latin America as well as stories from her own varied and colorful life growing up in East Los Angeles. Olga has told stories throughout the United states and Mexico. She tells stories for all ages. She especially likes telling to families.
Olga is one of the featured storytellers at this year's Los Angeles Libros Festival, a free bilingual book festival for the whole family. L.A. Libros Fest for Kids & Families will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube on Saturday, September 26.
What does heritage mean to you? How do you identify and why?
I am very proud to be a Chicana. I am proud of my Mexican Family. I feel that as a Chicana I have the perfect combination of Majestic Native tribes and Spanish. The best of both!

How does your heritage inspire your creativity?
As a storyteller and writer I feel that I have a wealthy source of inspiration in the Latin America folklore and also in family. I keep remembering more and more family stories.

Aparece en todas las historias. No solamente de mi vida pero de las vidas de todos.

El regalo mas grande es que puedo contar las historias de mi familia, de los cuentos, mitos y leyendas.

I preserve my heritage by sharing the stories as a storyteller and in writing.
