Join our new Good Trouble Reading Group led by Dr. Andrea Liss, Professor Emerita of Visual Culture and Cultural Theory at CSU San Marcos.
The group will meet for two sessions to discuss the book In the Country of Women by Susan Straight, available as a print book via Library To Go, as an e-book on Overdrive, and as a streaming e-book via Hoopla.

Participants will engage themes of social justice with love and family at their core. Straight’s beautiful memoir, written for and to her three grown-up daughters, brings readers poignantly into their diverse family history: the lives of their mother’s hardworking Swiss farmer grandparents and their African American father’s loving, close-knit family. Straight interweaves her family genealogies into their current lives in Riverside, California. Her sparkling humor and humanity ground these stories. Dr. Liss’ teaching and research focus on feminist visual culture and writing, visual art and photography related to historical events and representations of social justice particularly through the work of African American women.
