Author Leo Espinosa

Leo Espinosa is an award-winning illustrator whose action-filled children’s books have been praised for their comic expressiveness and cinematic framings. He received a Pura Belpré Honor for the vibrant illustrations he created for the New York Times bestseller IslandBorn by Junot Díaz. And he received The Gold Medal from The Society of Illustrators’ Original Art Show and the Irma S. Black & James H. Black Silver Medal for his outstanding work in The World Belonged to Us by Jacqueline Woodson. Other books he has illustrated include Lambda Award finalist Our Subway Baby by Peter Mercurio and The Creature of Habit by Jennifer E. Smith. Leo was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and now lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.
