The DIY Memory Lab is a digitization station that provides users with the tools and resources for the conversion and analysis of their personal digital projects. Our instructions and orientations enable users to digitize their own materials.
Age Policy
The DIY Memory Lab is designated for use by people ages 13 and older. Children ages 6-12 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times. Parental consent is required for users aged 17 and younger.
Release Form
A release form is required to use the DIY Memory Lab. Download and sign your Release Form before coming to your session or fill one out at the lab.
Access to Equipment
The computer stations at the DIY Memory Lab have been equipped with specialized software and hardware necessary for digitization and are solely designated for digitization use. All playback decks and equipment must stay in the area.
Food and Beverages
Food and drink are not allowed in the DIY Memory Lab. Food and beverages can damage media equipment (and make it sticky) as well as attract pests that can damage materials.
Saving Your Files
Users must save project files on their own external drives or cloud storage accounts. All DIY Memory Lab computers are reset nightly so files cannot be stored on the lab machines without risk of losing data.
Storage of Personal Items
Hard drives or other personal items needed for saving or transferring files cannot be stored at the DIY Memory Lab. Materials brought to the digitization station for scanning or analysis must remain with the owner at all times.
Reserving the Lab
The Memory Lab is open for appointments Monday through Friday: 11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Every Wednesday at 10 a.m., we teach an orientation on how to use the Memory Lab. The Memory Lab is closed on all other days for maintenance.
Consult the lab schedule to book an appointment and plan accordingly.
Appointments
After completing the 1-hour orientation, permission is granted to reserve one (1) session in the Memory Lab per week per patron lasting no more than three (3) hours. Failure to show up for two (2) sessions in a row will result in a 1-month suspension of Memory Lab appointment privileges.
