Book Summary The Changed History nonfiction series:

The Changed History series consists of the books: Famous Phonies: Legends Fakes, and Frauds Who Changed History, Fantastic Fugitives: Criminals, Cutthroats, and Rebels Who Changed History (While on the Run!), and Thrilling Thieves: Liars, Cheats, and Cons Who Changed History.

Brianna DuMont makes history fun and accessible with her well-researched books about people throughout history.

For children ages 8 - 12 years old who love the I Survived series, and nonfiction series, DK Life Stories, the Who Was and Who Is biography series and the National Geographic Weird But True series, including Brianna DuMont’s Weird But True: U.S. Presidents.

  • Author Brianna Dumont constantly reads, researches, and watches documentaries to collect subjects or people from the past in her books. You can start finding people in history you want to learn more about by exploring one of the library’s resources, Kanopy Kids then search "Tales From History.” Check this out if you need help getting started on Kanopy.

  • Write down a person from history that you have heard about but want to find out more information about and ask your family to take you to the library to find a fun book about that person. There have never been so many biographies to read for fun instead of to use for school.

  • When you read Brianna’s Thrilling Thieves, make sure to read the chapter about Robert Smalls, one of eight African American men after the Civil War to be in the House of Representatives.

  • When you read Brianna’s Fantastic Fugitives, make sure to read the chapter about Virginia Hall, who worked as a spy for the Allies during World War II.

—Thank you to author Brianna DuMont.

"Where do I get the idea for the stories? So, as I said, it's a lot of just stumbling across cool people and seeing the patterns and seeing how they fit and connect together. And then once you have a couple of names, it's a lot more research. You can spend hours going down different holes and finding new stories, and one usually connects to another."
