Beneficial Veteran Criminal Statutes that may help military and veterans get treatment instead of incarceration.

Community Veterans Justice Project - Provides specific services, policy advocacy, and community education to assist justice-involved service members/veterans with obtaining alternative sentencing for some felonies, and diversion for misdemeanor cases.

Incarcerated Veterans - It is important to be familiar with what happens to VA benefits and other benefits they are receiving, if they become incarcerated. 

Inner City Law Center - Homeless Veterans Project serves veterans who have disabilities as a result of their military service and who live without housing.

Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles - LFLA's project goal is to protect veterans and their families by securing government benefits, and medical care and services, while stabilizing their living situation. It is open to every veteran who is at risk for homelessness as a result of problems obtaining benefits.

Legal Service Clinics at VA facilities - Some VA facilities host non-VA legal service providers that can assist Veterans free of charge. Click Here for a list of those facilities.

Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) - LACBA's Veterans Project works to identify and address opportunities to assist veterans, active military personnel and reservists with their legal needs. The program will initially target veterans who are unemployed and at risk of homelessness by offering legal services, clinics, and self-help workshops in the areas of: Clearing Outstanding Tickets and Warrants, Reinstating California Driver Licenses, and Expungements: Clearing Criminal Record for Employment

Minority Veterans - CalVet’s Minority Veterans Division advocates on behalf of minority and LGBT Veterans. They promote the use of VA benefits, programs, and services. Contact them at 916-653-1402.

National Veterans Legal Service Program (NVLSP) - NVLSP is a nonprofit organization that assists Veterans and active duty personnel obtain the federal benefits they are entitled to.

Public Counsel - Public Counsel's Center for Veterans' Advancement (CVA), a national leader in veterans' advocacy, is driven by its core mission to uphold our nation's promise to veterans and their families. CVA provides legal representation to veterans and their families at both the local and national levels.

Swords to Plowshares - Self Help Materials from Swords to Plowshares, a community-based, not-for-profit veteran service organization that provides wrap-around care to more than 2,000 veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area each year.
 
Women Veterans - CalVet’s Women Veterans page. Find information regarding resources, conferences, information, and services pertaining to women Veterans. Make sure to sign up to the Women Veterans Roster to receive up to date information about benefits, programs, services and resources throughout California.
