One Book, One Coast

George Takei and his book

Calling all book lovers! Mark your calendar for One Book, One Coast, the largest book club on the West Coast!

"One Book, One Coast" is a collaborative program uniting a wide network of West Coast library jurisdictions in a shared celebration of literacy, learning, community, and civil discourse. From April 1 through June 6, all participating libraries will read and discuss They Called Us Enemy by George Takei.

They Called Us Enemy is a graphic memoir recounting actor/author/activist George Takei’s childhood imprisoned within American concentration camps during World War II. Confronting questions of patriotism, family, loyalty, and community, George’s work is a stunning examination of what it means to be American, both then and now.

One Book, One Coast is a collaboration between the Los Angeles Public Library, LA County Library, The Seattle Public Library, King County Library System, Multnomah County Library, Long Beach Public Library, and more than 140 libraries across California, Oregon, and Washington.
