The library is home to many resources, even heavy metal music. We make it possible to indulge people on a headbanging journey on demand through resources such as hoopla and Freegal. My partner-in-crime Gary noticed that Polish blackened metal band Behemoth had toured with Slayer in 2018, and was able to download most of their music through Freegal. Swedish black metal band Marduk drew controversy while touring Latin America for satanic and supremacist views, but this has only made them more popular, and thanks to the library, Gary was able to download their music in both hoopla and Overdrive. Famous music video director and former band member of another Swedish metal band called Bathory, Jonas Akerlund, recently released Lords of Chaos, a film about the rise of Norwegian black metal band Mayhem, surrounding bands, and their black metal fans. Again, Gary consulted the library for the book that inspired the movie—we have the movie on hoopla as well.
Los Angeles is a destination for many metal bands, and our library has many of the genre's established and upcoming bands in the collection. What's more, we have both digital and physical versions of what metalheads seek. Not only is there music, but also other media, like books and films that document the history of the genre, for example, Metal: A Headbanger's Journey and The Bloody Reign of Slayer. Recently added to hoopla are Metallica's entire discography and Slayer's comic book inspired by their trilogy of music videos, Repentless.
Since Metal is characterized as noisy, aggressive and fast, hoopla even offers an album with metal versions of Disney songs available on-demand, perfect for raising kids to be masters on the axe, drums and to get them ready to be metal gods!
Stay safe. Stay heavy. Stay metal. \m/
