Award-winning author, bilingual parenting expert/mentor, speaker, writer, podcast host, IG Live host, and parenting influencer. She is the author of four parenting books, published in English and in Spanish, two bilingual children’s books, and a translator of two children’s books. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Maritere is the mother of two adult children raised with two languages and three cultures. She lives with her Greek-American husband in Southern California.

Maritere Bellas will be one of the featured authors at the Los Angeles Libros Festival, a free bilingual book festival for the whole family. L.A. Libros Fest will be streamed live on YouTube on Friday, September 23, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The Festival will be in-person at Central Library in Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, September 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with select Saturday programs streamed live on YouTube.

Libros Fest ofrecerá dos días de programación en vivo con cuentacuentos, autores locales e internacionales, talleres de arte, conciertos y mucho más. L.A. Libros Fest será transmitido en línea en vivo vía YouTube el viernes 23 de septiembre de 9 a.m. a 12 p.m y en persona en la Biblioteca Central de Los Ángeles el sábado 24 de septiembre de 11 a.m. a 4 p.m., con programas selectos transmitidos también en vivo por YouTube.

Books are an amazing tool to spark the imagination and to make us feel like anything is possible.

What are some of the things you do to bring to life the world you’ve imagined? / ¿Cuáles son algunas de las cosas que tú haces para hacer realidad el mundo que has imaginado?
I work hard, I never give up, I persevere, I read how others have accomplished their dreams and get inspired.

What stories inspired you as a young reader? / ¿Cuáles historias te inspiraron cuando eras niño/a?
Little Prince was my favorite childhood book. A book that introduced me to traveling (he visits various planets) and what it was like to be a visitor and learn about others. I also learned about friendship, love, and loss. Things that have helped me in my adult life and perhaps why I am such an advocate of languages and cultures.
El Principito fue mi libro favorito de la infancia. Un libro que me introdujo a viajar (él visita varios planetas) y lo que es ser un visitante y aprender sobre los demás. También aprendí sobre la amistad, el amor y la pérdida. Cosas que me han ayudado en mi vida adulta y quizás la razón por la cual soy tan defensora de los idiomas y las culturas.

Write!! Read! Especially books and stories by favorite authors so they can find their style and format. We all have a story to tell!

How did you feel the first time your work was published? How was your publishing journey? / ¿Cómo te sentiste la primera vez que un libro tuyo fue publicado? ¿Cómo fue el proceso para lograr que tu libro fuera publicado?
It is an amazing feeling of accomplishment. Like no other! Publishing is not easy. It takes time and discipline. Doing the homework, research is important.

What are some challenges you encounter when writing? / ¿Cuáles son algunos de los retos que encuentras al escribir?
Writer’s block is real! Best to take time off and come back to it with fresh thinking cap on.
